The story of how the people of Israel fled slavery under the Pharaohs in Egypt is covered in the book of Exodus beginning with Chapter 13 in the Bible. The path the people took from Egypt to modern day Israel has been debated over the centuries, but archeological evidence supports the theory that they left the land of Goshen in Northern Egypt, crossed the modern day Sinai Peninsula, crossed the Gulf of Aqaba (the parting of the “Red Sea”), and received the 10 Commandments at Mount Sinai, modern day Jabal Maqla in Saudi Arabia.
